Community Partnerships

The Community Engagement Center works alongside a diverse network of community partners, including barbershops, churches, universities, community-based organizations, and local government entities.

These partnerships are central to delivering impactful, community-driven programs and expanding the reach of health education, screenings, referrals, and trusted cardiovascular health resources across Mississippi communities.

Community-driven programs and outreach

Through education, screenings, training, and partnerships, the Community Engagement Center programs help promote cardiovascular health awareness, early detection, prevention, and linkage to care.

BROTHERS

Barbers Reaching Out to Help Educate on Routine Screenings

Engages barbershops to provide blood pressure screenings, health education, and referrals, using trusted community spaces to reduce cardiovascular risk and promote healthy behaviors among Black men.

Community Engagement Center Mobile Unit

Expands access to cardiovascular screenings, education, and referrals by delivering services directly to communities, increasing reach and supporting early detection and prevention efforts.

Community Advisory Board

The Community Advisory Board includes JHS cohort participants, Community Engagement Center program representatives, Community Health Advisor members, and community stakeholders who meet quarterly to support community voices and help guide responsive, community-informed initiatives.

Community Health Advisor Network

Empowers community members to serve as trusted health advocates who share information, promote heart health, and connect people to screenings and resources in their communities.

Community Research Fellows Training

Equips community members with research knowledge and skills to increase participation in public health initiatives and strengthen community-informed approaches to health improvement.

Congregational Health Alliance

Partners with faith-based organizations to establish health ministries, deliver cardiovascular screenings and education, and promote policies that support healthy lifestyles and reduce chronic disease risk.

Healthy Housing Initiative

Works with housing communities to reduce cardiovascular risk by providing screenings, health education, and referrals, while promoting healthy living environments for low-income and vulnerable populations.

Health Ambassadors Program

In partnership with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., the Community Engagement Center engages members to serve as health ambassadors, promoting cardiovascular health awareness, supporting community outreach, and connecting individuals to screenings and resources.

Mayoral Health Council

Engages municipal leaders to create healthier communities through policy, systems, and environmental changes that increase access to physical activity, healthy foods, tobacco-free spaces, cardiovascular health education, and partnerships.
